An employee allegedly stabbed his boss during a staff meeting and it is being investigated as a possible copycat attack of the UnitedHealthcare CEO’s killing.
Nathan Mahoney, 32, is accused of slashing the president of Anderson Express Inc as the manufacturing company held a meeting at their office in Muskegon, Michigan, on Tuesday morning, according to the Fruitport Township Police Department.
??Mahoney allegedly stabbed Erik Denslow with a knife around 9.20am and fled the premises in his vehicle.
Cops arrested him 15 minutes later.
??Denslow underwent surgery and was in serious but stable condition.
?The motive of the attack was not immediately known.
But Deputy Chief Greg Poulson said they have not ruled out the crime was potentially imitating the alleged actions of UnitedHealthcare executive Brian Thompson’s accused killer, Luigi Mangione.
‘I think that comes to everyone’s mind in this time,’ Poulson told News 8.
‘We’re going through all his social accounts, all his electronic media and trying to determine a motive for this act.’
Mahoney’s co-workers described him as ‘having a quiet demeanor’, according to the police department.
?He was arraigned on Wednesday and has been charged with assault with intent to murder as well as fleeing and eluding a cop.
Denslow was stabbed hours before Mangione, 26, was hit with an 11-count indictment charging him with killing Thompson, 50. Thompson was shot dead while heading to his company’s annual investors?conference at a Midtown Manhattan hotel on December 4.
Mangione’s alleged writings detailed disdain for health insurance companies denying patient claims. That anti-corporate greed message has resulted in a sizable supporter base for Mangione ?and possible copycat criminals.
On December 10, a 42-year-old Florida woman allegedly threatened BlueCross BlueShield in a phone call after the health insurance company denied her claims. She uttered the words ‘delay, deny, depose’ ?the same words found on shell casings of bullets Mangione is accused of firing at Thompson, police said. The three words appeared to refer to the 2010 book Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don’t Pay Claims and What You Can Do About.
?Fruitport Township police are recovering CCTV footage from the scene and asking anyone with information on the stabbing to contact them.

Closed worlds
?I’ve been trying to work out what game I’ll play at Christmas, on my Steam Deck, and I usually like to get stuck into a good, epic open world game. But there haven’t really been any lately. All I can think of that’s recent is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and Indiana Jones And The Great Circle.
??I’m not even sure they are actually open world though, as I think Final Fantasy and Indiana Jones have an open world but also linear sections? I just want to get lost in a classic open world map like Skyrim or Red Dead Redemption 2.
It seems full-on open world games are getting rarer nowadays. Probably because games are more expensive to make now, but it’s a shame.
Kobold
GC: None of those games are entirely open world (and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth isn’t on PC until January). They all have open world areas, but none are what you seem to be looking for. How about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, though?
Kraven more
?I’m fine with Sony controlling FromSoftware, even if they don’t technically own it. Seems like it amounts to the same thing if they’re the majority shareholder. I’m not anti-Xbox in general but Microsoft owns too much of the games industry now and I am for anything that keeps important developers like From out of their hands. I don’t care whether they say (or vaguely hint at) going multiformat or not.
??It doesn’t sound like Sony’s new status is going to change anything about how From work so it’s all good as far as I’m concerned. In fact, it doesn’t sound like Sony was particularly interested in From at all, beyond wanting to make movies with them.
What I do question though is why Kadokawa wanted the deal? Have they not seen a Sony movie before? Did they watch Morbius and Madame Web and think: those are the people we want to make our Elden Ring movie! That goes double for Nintendo and the Zelda movie.
Soapy
Important questions
?Although The Witcher 4 trailer was all well and good, the problem with the way games are unveiled nowadays is that you don’t get any of the important questions answered almost until their released, and sometimes not even till after.
??As long as the writing remains as good as before it doesn’t really matter who the main character is. What does matter, is whether they’ve improved the combat and if the story is going to be better than the non-event of the last game. Can anyone actually remember what The Witcher 3 was even about? (Funnily, I’d say the same for Skyrim, so I guess it’s a common problem for open world fantasy games.)
I’d be much more excited if they’d announced they’d hired the guy who did God Of War’s combat, or something similar. Them getting someone unrelated company to make a CGI trailer doesn’t really tell us anything.

Not a mystery
So, I’ve decided to write this before the latest rumoured date for the Switch 2 ‘reveal?on Christmas Day. I’m so confident that this won’t end up being true I’m sending this in now with the hopes you’ll publish it after the holidays.
I seem to recall a similar deluge of speculation and scuttlebutt before the original Switch reveal, basically none of which ended up being accurate. I believe there was even a mystery button? that ended up being the NFC reader (or maybe that was the 3DS?my memory is terrible).
My point is, trying to predict Nintendo continues to be a fool’s errand. These interminable leaks don’t make me more excited for the official reveal, it just winds me up that Nintendo still haven’t ripped the band-aid off. I can’t wait till we’re through this and have the actual specs, games, and release date to discuss instead of this tiresome guesswork.
noisecat
GC: It’s a little more than guesswork at this point; there were never any leaks like this for the original Switch. We have less faith in the random leakers, including the one talking about a Christmas Day reveal, but there seems little doubt the photo leaks from peripheral makers are real.
DC Legacy
??Saw the teaser trailer for the new Superman movie and was relatively impressed. It was a bit of an odd trailer, but I do like all the things in it. But it made me question whether Warner Bros. is going to do anything to support it with a game?
We’ve been hearing about cancelled Superman games for decades now and still nothing. James Gunn said new games would be in canon but as far as I know the only one in development is the Wonder Woman game – which we haven’t seen a single thing for and was announced before Gunn took over.
We went almost the entire DCEU without a new game, and none of those were tie-ins, so I’m not expecting Warner to be particularly quick off the mark this time either.

Pop culture reference
??RE: Well, count me as another lover of Indy. Bought Midnight Suns just after Black Friday, cost me a fiver! Was quietly impressed and quite enjoying it?well until Dr Jones dropped that was. This game, as an Indy fan, (at least the original trilogy, watched them with my pa), makes you feel like you are the whip cracking, wise quipping, mumbling, hunky doctor of archaeology.
Some of the puzzles are real head scratchers and it will never get old clumping Nazis with sledgehamners or toilet plungers. Also, Gina is his best bird since Elsa and she didn’t kiss his dad, as far as I know! Loved the MachineGames Wolfensteins and this Is very reminiscent of those, but with enough Indy flavour to not be too derivative.
Speaking of, there is a part on the KMS Kommetz where Strumführer Gantz mocks Indy, ‘You have no purpose. What you have, is your stupid American cartoons. Choo-choo, choo-choo.’ Where he proceeds to dance and mock you like a loon! The point being, I swear I watched the pretty much exact scene where B.J. Blaskowich was being mocked by his Nazi tormentors in one of the Wolfenstein games. Help me, tell me I’m not just imagining it?!
Anyhow great game, highly recommended to all. Even you PlayStation lot?br>big boy bent
GC: We don’t remember that in Wolfenstein (although you may well be right) but Gantz was mimicking Mickey Mouse from Steamboat Willie. Come to think of it, Mickey Mouse was also mentioned in The Last Crusade.
Narrowing field
I agree that Ubisoft going under, or being absorbed into some other megacorp, would be a real shame. Not because they’re great, or haven’t been messing up, but, as the other reader says, there’ll be virtually nobody left after that in terms of big Western publishers. Take-Two and EA and that’s you’re lot – neither of which release many games anymore and even less in terms of anything new.
I wouldn’t mind at all if that gave Japanese publishers a chance to become dominant again but somehow I don’t think it’s going to work out that way. There’s just going to be less options, less companies, and less variety in games.

With all the recent rumours around Switch 2 being this button, I thought I’d throw my two cents in. It’s also kind of telling that with the design of the thing being so iterative the focus of any interest has become ‘what does this new button do?’?but moving on.
A cast function would be a great idea, making the dock some kind of gaming Chromecast or Fire Stick. However, I’m not sure how practical that really is? The dock in the original Switch is designed to allow the Switch unit to run at higher clock speeds to boost resolution and sometimes performance for TV play, its design providing more power from the mains than the battery and opening up the design for guaranteed air flow for the fans.
You’d think a Switch 2 would also need this for TV play with rumours suggesting a boost to some kind of 4K from the dock. So having the actual console in your hands when playing on the TV with air vents potentially covered up and running from the battery doesn’t sound like a good idea, units would be over heating left and right. Allowing a ‘third play option’ where you cast to the TV but only in portable power mode would be too confusing for users too, I think.
Of course, it’s possible Nintendo think portable mode can be upscaled ‘good enough’ for 4KTVs using the rumoured custom Nvidia DLSS tech in portable play mode, without worrying about power draw and thermals. Guess we’ll wait and see. If that’s the gimmick they’ve got for this one they’ve really pulled it out of the bag.
Marc
GC: We very much doubt the Switch 2 will be doing native 4K, it’ll almost certainly rely on DLSS style upscale tech.

I saw the new Sonic The Hedgehog film last night and I’ve got to say it was actually pretty good. Or at least far better than I ever imagined a Sonic game with Shadow in it to be.

Actually quite excited to play a new Virtua Fighter. GC talks about Daytona USA being their first glimpse of top notch 3D graphics but for me it was the original Virtua Fighter coin-op. Quite rare in the UK but it blew my mind at the time.

]]>As the second season approaches, Netflix provide their own adaptation of Squid Game, in a more violent rival to Fall Guys.
?When Korean TV series Squid Game was released to an unsuspecting public in 2021, its enormous popularity took everyone by surprise. What was less surprising was its deadly game show subject matter, which occurs with surprising frequency in fiction of all varieties. Forget The Truman Show with its boring non-lethal, humiliation-only tropes, Squid Game is about killing almost everybody involved.
The concept goes back decades, through Arnold Schwarzenegger film The Running Man (which is getting a remake that’s closer to the original Stephen King story), and fellow book adaptations Battle Royale and The Hunger Games??. The details are always different but the idea that people would want to watch others risking and losing their lives performing silly game show tasks has been around for a long time.
In ancient Rome it happened in real life, but these days, of course, it’s only simulated. Players of Fortnite and Among Us will be more than familiar with the challenge of being the last person standing, while Fall Guys? tries to play things purely for laughs. And so it is that Squid Game: Unleashed has also been released, where you once again compete against random internet foes who are also all trying to be the sole survivor.
??Each round of Unleashed comprises three mini-games based on the ones seen in the TV show, albeit with considerably fewer contestants. Starting with 32 players, 16 survivors go on to compete in round two, and the eight survivors of that go into a final round in which there can only be one winner. The presentation is very cartoony, so the constant gore doesn’t really come across as any more savage than Tom & Jerry.
??It’s also been thoughtfully ported to a video game format, so in the first two mini-games in each round, when you die you instantly respawn and carry on with the game until there are 16 winners. How that’s decided depends entirely on which of Unleashed’s 40+ games you’re playing, which offers a fair bit of variety.
?Perhaps the most familiar is Red Light, Green Light, which is a race to the finish with the twist that there’s a giant doll at the end of the room. When she’s facing the wall you can run forwards, but when she turns around, if you’re spotted moving you get shot by hidden snipers. To spice things up sometimes you’ll play on a featureless pitch, other times there are patches of grass to hide in, or it can take place on an ice rink that makes it trickier to start and stop in time.
??Snakes & Ladders starts everyone at the top of a tall tower, its floor panels turning red and then disappearing, the object being not to fall to your death. The Floor is Lava happens above actual lava, so staying on its gradually submerging hexagonal columns is the only way to live through it. Late for School has you rushing for a school gate via electrified swimming pools, moving circular saws, and Frogger-style school buses trying to run you over. The commonality is that all the games are very lethal.
?To makes things even sketchier you can pick up weapons. Baseball bats, knives, dodgeballs, snowballs, and more, which vary in their effectiveness depending on the game you’re playing. A dodgeball in the back at just the wrong moment can get you shot in Red Light, Green Light, while a mistimed swing of a bat can actually help you across the finishing line. It adds a small extra dimension to the chaos, which is at its most palpable in the first round, with all 32 players still alive and participating.
?While every character you unlock starts off equal, each has a special ability that unlocks at level two and increases in its potency as you continue levelling up. That could be a chance to start with an invincibility shield, knife or baseball bat, or a speed boosting running shoe. You’ll also unlock cosmetics for each character, making the field of competitors look increasingly variegated as you progress.
?Another thing you’ll notice is the increasing difficulty. Games are ranked between one and five stars, and at one star it’s hard to lose, while at the other end of the scale you’ll need luck and a lot more savvy. That’s useful because with a decent number of mini-games, many with several variants, your approach to winning will constantly need to evolve. We found in most games knowing what to do proves less important than knowing what not to do; which areas to avoid, and ways of preventing the inherent random factor of more than 30 other players getting you killed too quickly.
?There is a store, but in line with other Netflix titles, you can only spend in-game currency to unlock new characters and outfits. Prices seem pretty arbitrary, with one suit costing 1,000,000 and new characters priced anywhere between 10,000 and 100,000. Importantly though, nothing you can buy delivers an advantage in play, although levelling up your favourite character will eventually start giving you a small edge.
Games feel well populated – sometimes overpopulated – resulting in disconnections and server errors, something that a great many multiplayer games get wrong in their launch weeks. Given that it’s free and rounds are very short it’s hard to feel too short-changed when you get booted out early, but we’d expect these glitches to be ironed out in short order.
??The big question is whether it will have any longevity. Its mini-games are fast and fun, and it’s mildly compelling unlocking cosmetics and progressing through the season’s league, but it’s a far less tactically involved game than Fortnite, or indeed any of the more complex battle royale games that have thrived over the past few years, most of which are also free to play.
??Still, as a phone game its short rounds and rapid learning curve make it a winner, even if it’s highly unlikely you’ll still be playing it in three months?time.
In Short: ??Fast, fun and a little bit silly, Squid Game’s battle royale works surprisingly well on mobile, but it lacks the depth to provide any long term interest.
Pros:?? Plenty of mini-games, many of which have different variants. The first two rounds respawn you instantly, making for less downtime, and the games involve real skill and tactics.
Cons:?? While compelling it is eventually a bit shallow, and there are far more fully formed free-to-play battle royale games available.
Score: 6/10
Formats: iOS (reviewed) and Android
Price: Free for everyone at launch, but eventually only available to Netflix subscribers

]]>Stormzy is in the best shape of his life, and he’s certainly not afraid to flaunt it.
New photos show the Vossi Bop hitmaker as we’ve never seen him before, having hit the gym and transformed his physique with an intense workout regime and strict diet.
The 31-year-old rapper has opened up about his image overhaul and essentially venturing into athlete territory??, explaining that adjusting to his new lifestyle has taken hard grafting.
‘Waking up this morning, going to the gym, I’d much rather not do that. I’d rather scroll on TikTok or have a fry-up,’ he began in the most relatable sentence to come from a celebrity in 2024.
‘I’m not naturally disciplined, so I need structure. My breakfast today was a spinach and egg skillet. I don’t want to eat that,’ he confessed to Men’s Health UK.
‘But there’s something I do want, and that is to be in shape and have great shows. So that’s what I eat.’
??The award-winning musician began his transformation in 2019 ahead of headlining Glastonbury.
Prior to the Worthy Farm festival, Stormzy had high expectations of himself to create a ‘flipping iconic, legendary set’, describing Glasto as ‘a whole new beast’ to other headline events.
At the time, though, he would find himself on stage feeling as though he had ‘nothing left in the tank’.
He admits he ‘didn’t grow up super fit’ and describes himself as ‘bog standard’ (never, Stormzy, never!)
So, having kickstarted his new exercise program and giving his diet a 180, the star is striving to reach Beyoncé’s stamina level.
‘There’s a part in Beychella where she talks about her diet, and I was thinking, “Yeah, now I want a nutritionist. I want to be someone who is able to deliver a live set for 90 minutes with full energy and not stutter on my vocal, not be out of breath, not need to take a break, just be almost like a superhuman on stage, the same as I’ve seen Beyoncé”.’
Never fear, though, as the cover star won’t be appearing on Gladiators anytime soon – he’s still very much in the studio.
Asked what his main goals are right now, the Big For Your Boots vocalist declared that he wants to ‘make a great album’.
It’s been a turbulent year for Stormzy, to say the least.
??The rapper, real name Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr., began 2024 all loved up after rekindling his romance with Maya Jama last summer.
Alas, the beloved couple called it quits?? in July after giving things a second try, four years after first breaking up.
In a shock statement at the time, the pair explained that their relationship simply ‘didn’t work’.
In a message, they told their millions of fans that they had been ‘laughing’ while drafting the breakup announcement, as they ‘never, ever in a million years’ thought they’d be the people to do so.
But, for the ‘sake of clarity’, they wanted to let the world know: ‘We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart.
‘We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we’ve spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits.’
Insisting that they ‘still think the world of each other’, they added: ‘We tried, and it didn’t work, and that’s okay.?/p>
Following their split, Stormzy sparked fresh romance rumours? in October when he was spotted kissing US singer Victoria Monet.
Stormzy fronts and guest edits the January/February issue of Men’s Health UK, on sale from December 20.

]]>A popular brand of potato chips has been recalled for containing ‘undeclared milk’ that could cause severe and even life-threatening allergic reactions.
Frito-Lay on Monday announced a recall of a ‘limited number’ of its 13-ounce Lay’s Classic Potato Chips after a consumer reached out.
‘Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product,’ stated Frito-Lay through a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory on Wednesday.
??The affected crisps were sold in retail stores through online distributors in Oregon and Washington. They were sold as far back as November 3 of this year.
??Bags under the recall had both the guaranteed fresh date of February 11, 2025, and the manufacturing code 6462307xx or 6463307xx.
No allergic reactions have yet been reported.
Lay’s Classic Potato Chips, packaged in golden yellow bags, are one of the most recognizable crisps in the US.
Other Lay’s flavors, bag sizes and products and variety packs are not impacted.
??Consumers who are allergic or sensitive to milk are advised not to eat the crisps and throw them away immediately.
??The FDA advisory did not include information on possible refunds or replacements for customers. Customers are encouraged to contact Frito-Lay Consumer Relations.
It comes after Doritos recalled its Chilli Heatwave crisps?? for containing milk, cheese powder and mil protein that could trigger severe allergies in customers including those who are lactose intolerant.
‘While the packaging does state that the chips are made in a factory which handles milk, the allergen is not declared on the ingredients list and therefore presents an allergen risk for milk,’ a Pepsico spokesperson stated at the time.
And in 2016, Kettle Brand recalled various types of its chips? that contained plastic pieces that looked like crisps. The affected varieties included 150 gram bags of lightly salted chips and 40 gram bags of sea salt and balsamic vinegar and mature cheddar and red onion chips.

??‘It’s good to be part of the soap weeks and Christmas and all that,?Claire King told us. ‘It’s good. Keeps me on my toes, anyway! I have a lot of baths, with sherry, where I learn my lines.?nbsp;
??Viewers have seen Kim at war recently with husband Will Taylor (Dean Andrews). Starting with his infidelity with his ex, Rose Jackson (Christine Tremarco), there have been various twists and turns in the story.
?We’ve seen Kim ‘blackmailing? Will before luring him to a freshly-dug grave in a wood. We’ve seen her paying Ross Barton (Mike Parr) to get rid of him from the area and we’ve seen her trying to pay him off with £100k.
Most recently there has been a reconciliation between the two, but secretly Will is still plotting against Kim.
??‘It’s War of the Roses and it has been for several weeks now,?Claire said. ‘She does still love him but she doesn’t know that he’s kind of working behind her back, in cahoots with Kim’s financial advisor Peter (David Michaels).?nbsp;
The tables turn yet again on Christmas Eve??, when Kim has a riding accident and the thought of almost losing her makes Will reassess his feelings.
??Claire described what happens. ’Kim goes riding on Christmas Eve. Ice rears up and gets spooked. She ends up in hospital, but Will finds her on the ground with Ice just roaming about free.
‘He has a bit of a jolt of realisation and thinks, “Actually I do love this woman. I’d better call the whole thing off. I really do love her.?They’re going to renew their vows on Christmas Day, so it’s kind of all happy back together again. He calls Peter to say it’s all off.?nbsp;
?That sounds like a happy-ever-after, but the story has further twists. A flash-forward sequence will show Home Farm at Christmas. While eerie music plays, we see the signs of a struggle, and a Christmas tree is laying on the ground in the middle of all the mess.
Clearly something violent has taken place – but who is the victim and who is the perpetrator? And what, exactly, has happened?
?‘There’s some sort of disturbance, that’s all I can say!?Claire teased.
What she would say is that she would very much welcome it if Kim’s ?a href="//betvisa168-sabong.com/2024/07/25/kim-strikes-emmerdale-enemy-goes-missing-amid-baby-tragedy-21289691/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Killer Kim?/a> side resurfaced again. In recent years we’ve seen a softer side to Kim as she bonded with Dawn (Olivia Bromley) and Billy (Jay Kontzle) and their children – and Claire is just a little bit tired of the niceness.

??‘She’s been nice for three years, really,?she sighed. ‘It’s kind of “Zzzzzz. Hi kiddies! Come on, Granny takes you!?It’s like, “Ugh! I want to kill someone!”?nbsp;
?As to whether she could have killed Will under the Christmas tree, Claire wasn’t ruling it out.
‘She could do that to anybody, yeah,?she speculated. ‘She loves him but she likes toying with him as well.?nbsp;
]]>Jamie Carragher is not a fan of Ange Postecoglou’s football philosophy but the Tottenham manager is not budging, unmoved by criticism.
Spurs beat Manchester United?? 4-3 on Thursday night in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on a chaotic night in north London.
?The home team were flying as they took a 3-0 lead, but awful mistakes from goalkeeper Fraser Forster with his feet allowed the visitors back into the game.
??Son Heung-min scored directly from a corner 88 minutes in to continue the bizarre scenes and Jonny Evans kept things spicy by making it 4-3 in injury time but Spurs held on for the win.
?Carragher was baffled that Tottenham continued to play out from the back with Forster when they were 3-0 up and cruising when the goalkeeper is not at his best with his feet.
‘My criticism over Tottenham under the manager is they never change how they play no matter what the game state is,’ Carragher said on Sky Sports. ‘I don’t think football should be played the same from minute 1-90.
Ange Postecoglou tells them no matter if its the 1st minute, 90th minute, winning, losing or drawing, we play the same way, For me I can’t have that. That is not right.
‘What we’ve created now is robots on the pitch. I wasn’t a great player technically or physically, but I understood the game. Some of the things I saw tonight I wouldn’t have allowed to happen. The manager has told you to play a certain way but someone has to get a grip and say ‘no, we are changing for the next five or 10 minutes’.
‘It frustrates me when players can’t see how the game state changes and recognise they have to change their approach to suit it.’
?Postecoglou, in contrast, absolutely loved what he saw from his players, not in the mistakes from Forster, but their mindset and commitment.
‘I like the whole bit mate. Are you not entertained? Do you want a scrambling 1-0?’ Postecoglou said on Sky Sports.
‘I know the studio’s probably going into meltdown over my lack of tactics, but I love the fact we go out there and take it to opposition even though we’ve got so many absences at the minute. I really like the way we played tonight.
‘I love football and I love watching teams that go out there and entertain. Obviously we want to be successful as well and we won’t be if we make things difficult for ourselves like we did tonight.
‘We’re keeping all you folks entertained, creating plenty of discussion and I can’t see how that’s a bad thing.’
Asked if he wants to cut out the mistakes, he said: ‘Of course, but your asking for perfection in human beings and that doesn’t exist, sometimes they stuff up just like I do and you do.’
Carragher said after hearing those comments: ‘That interview was brilliant. We were laughing all the way through. He’s never going to change.’
]]>??The draw for the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup has been made and it is a blockbuster line-up in the last four.
Tottenham were the last team to book their place in the semi-finals after a wild 4-3 win over Manchester United in north London on Thursday night.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou said of the win: ‘We made it harder than it should have been, we were well in control, played really well, we looked like we were going to manage the game and then two unfortunate moments, the first one affected Fraser [Forster] and then the second one came as a result of that. But we showed character and scored a fourth.’
Ruben Amorim said on defeat for his Red Devils side: ‘We cannot think in that way that winning silverware makes everything OK. It will be a long way, we are improving, our goal is to win the Premier League, how long it will take I don’t know.’
?On Wednesday evening Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle came through their quarter-final contests in the fight for the first trophy of the season.
Arsenal vs Newcastle
Tottenham vs Liverpool
?The teams drawn first will play their home games in the first legs and will be away in the second matches.
??The two-legged ties will be played in the weeks beginning 6 January and 3 February 2025.
The final will take place on 16 March at Wembley.
Arsenal 3-2 Crystal Palace
Newcastle 3-1 Brentford
Southampton 1-2 Arsenal
Tottenham 4-3 Man Utd
?Eight people have been hospitalised after the roof was torn off a double-decker bus when it hit a railway bridge.
??Emergency services rushed to the scene in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, after the incident took place shortly before 2pm on Thursday.
??Photos from the scene show the top deck of the Stagecoach bus completely exposed as the destroyed roof lay on the road nearby.
Police Scotland confirmed eight people had been taken to hospital following the crash but said there are no reports of any ‘serious injuries’.
A schoolboy sat on the top deck described how the bus was going ‘quite fast’ before hitting the bridge and that he went ‘into shock’ following the collision.
‘Any person would know we wouldn’t fit under it. People on the bus were prepared, and it seemed everyone knew what was going to happen,’ he told STV.
‘It just suddenly slammed into the bridge, and the full roof came off. It was a really long, crashing sound.’
The boy said he was left ‘covered in glass’ after the crash, and that most of the passengers onboard were teenagers.
‘As I came off the stairs, there was blood all over the handles and a boy getting checked by the paramedics,’ he told the outlet.
‘There was around 11 of us on the top deck, all teenagers. I couldn’t see anyone who wasn’t my age.
‘I spoke to the police, got checked by the paramedics and phoned my mum who came to get me. Luckily I was alright.’
The incident comes less than a week after a double-decker First Bus hit a railway bridge in Glasgow? on Saturday evening, which left several people injured.
A 60-year-old man was taken to the city’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in a critical condition at the weekend.
?A woman, 52, and five men, aged 30, 32, 41 and two aged 33, were also taken by ambulance to the same hospital for treatment to minor injuries and were later discharged.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We received a call at 1.55pm to attend an incident on Culzean Crescent, Kilmarnock.
‘One ambulance and three special operations response teams were dispatched to the scene and four patients were transported to University Hospital Crosshouse.’
A Police Scotland statement said: ‘Officers were called to a crash involving a double decker bus on Culzean Crescent in Kilmarnock around 1.55pm on Thursday 19 December 2024.
‘Eight passengers were taken to hospital. There are no reports of serious injuries.
‘Enquiries are ongoing into the collision. The road reopened around 5.30pm.’
??ScotRail said no train services had been impacted.
??Network Rail said specialist engineers inspected the structure following the incident.
A spokesman said: ‘The bridge has not sustained any structural damage as a result of the collision.’
A Stagecoach West Scotland spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm there has been an incident involving one of our buses in Kilmarnock.
‘The 6 service, which runs from Kilmarnock Bus Station to New Farm Loch, struck a low bridge.
‘Investigations are ongoing and we are working closely with Police Scotland.’

]]>Phil Collins has shared a rare health? update, explaining that it’s ‘still sinking in?that he can no longer play the drums,
The? legendary musician has been in the spotlight for decades?, thanks to his work with Genesis as well as his solo career.
The 73-year-old has struggled with his mobility recently, following a spinal injury in 2007 – he has undergone a string of operations over the years, but was eventually forced to retire from performing in 2022.
In a new Drumeo documentary titled Phil Collins: Drummer First, released on Wednesday, he became emotional as he sat at a drum kit for the first time in years, before shedding light on his health.
‘It’s still kind of sinking in a bit??he told the cameras in the footage, which was recorded in 2022. ‘I’m 71. I’ve spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock.
‘The drumming has taken it’s toll on my hands, legs?/p>
??‘f I can’t do what I did as well as I did it, I’d rather relax and not do anything. If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks, then I’ll have a crack at it.
‘But I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles.?/p>
?Phil’s son, Nic Collins, took over his tour duties as his health declined, and opened up about rockers often feeling as though they were ‘invincible?at the peak of their careers.
‘People in bands, in general, had this thought that they were invincible,?he added. ‘I think that’s really what it is with my dad.
‘It’s this sense of you’re a drummer, you’re invincible, you do what you do. But you don’t know what is going to take a toll in the long run.?/p>
??Phil joined Genesis in 1970, and regularly performed with band members Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks.
?Over the years, they were responsible for hits including Mama, Invisible Touch, Follow You Follow Me, No Son of Mine, Turn It On Again and I Can’t Dance.
?The In The Air Tonight star then pivoted to his own solo career in the 90s and took home an Oscar for best original song thanks to his bop, You’ll Be In My Heart, which was on the Tarzan soundtrack.
Sadly, Phil faced a series of health setbacks behind the scenes, and revealed in 2009 that he was unlikely to play the drums again.
??Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said at the time: ‘After playing drums for 50 years, I’ve had to stop. My vertebrae have been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in.
‘It comes from years of playing. I can’t even hold the sticks properly without it being painful, I even used to tape the sticks to my hands to get through.?/p>
??He joined his Genesis bandmates from a choir while on stage in 2021, before appearing in a wheel chair for his final performance the following year, while Nic has stepped in to replace him for some performances.

]]>Colon cancer?? could be caused by certain types of cooking oils, a new study has warned.
?Oils like sunflower, canola, corn and grapeseed have been highlighted as oils of concern.
The piece published in the medical journal Gut analysed 80 patients with colon cancers in the US.
It found the cooking oils increased the risk of developing colon cancer in the patients aged between 30 to 85.
?The research found people should swap seed oils for oils that contain omega-3 fatty acids like olive and avocado oil.
Seed oils are responsible for higher levels of lipids that produce fat compounds in the body – and more than 25% of the calories in our diets come from eight seed oils: rapeseed, sunflower, flaxseed, corn, grapeseed, soybean, rice bran, and safflower.
?These oils also lead to inflammation in the body because they contain omega-6 and polyunsaturated fatty acids.
Tim Yeatman, a professor of surgery and lead author of the study, told Good Health: ‘Eating excess omega 6s results in excess pro-inflammatory lipid [i.e. fats] mediators, which results in an immuno-suppressed environment of the colon cancer.
‘And I think it allows [the cancer] to grow and prosper and propagate.’
He suggests swapping to oils with more omega 3s, like olive or avocado oil, adding: ‘Olive oil has many proven health benefits and is a central component in the Mediterranean diet consistently shown to be the healthiest eating pattern.
‘Avocado oil, too, has benefits for heart and eye health and more.’
??Main cancer bodies in the US though say there is no evidence moderate consumption contributes to a rise.
?Seed oils were originally invented by candle maker William Procter in the 1900s.
?They soon became a staple to be used across America and the world.
The rise in obesity and type 2 diabetes have been linked to increase seed oil consumption – but Sarah Berry, a professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at King’s College London, suggests the growing amount of processed food in our diets may be the actual cause.
She said: ‘A lot of ultra-processed foods contain seed oils ?but they also contain high levels of sugar, salt and other additives, while lacking nutrients.
‘So eating a lot of ultra-processed foods which contain seed oils might be linked to an increased risk of obesity and other conditions, but it’s not the seed oils that are to blame.’
In the UK, it was reported in April that ‘forever chemicals’ were found in common UK fruits, vegetables and spices.
They are called ‘forever chemicals’ because they take centuries to break down in the environment.
?PFAs can accumulate in the bodies of living organisms including humans.
They have been linked to severe health conditions, including kidney and testicular cancer, an increase in cholesterol and high blood pressure in pregnant women.
?Nick Mole, from Pan UK, said: ‘Given the growing body of evidence linking PFAs to serious diseases such as cancer, it is deeply worrying that UK consumers are being left with no choice but to ingest these chemicals, some of which may remain in their bodies long into the future.
‘We urgently need to develop a better understanding of the health risks associated with ingesting these “forever chemicals?and do everything we can to exclude them from the food chain.?/p>

]]>Lisandro Martinez was accused of making a ‘wimpish’ and ‘simply appalling’ clearance by Gary Neville during Manchester United’s wild 4-3 defeat to Tottenham on Thursday night.
??Spurs are into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup after an error-strewn game in north London, with both goalkeepers having nights to forget and the Argentina international coming in for criticism.
??The Red Devils were already a goal behind thanks to Dominic Solanke when Martinez tried to deal with a cross but could only flick the ball to Dejan Kulusevski.
The Sweden international made no mistake from inside the penalty area, firing past Altay Bayindir to double Tottenham’s lead.
Neville was not impressed with Martinez for the second goal and he also blamed Bayindir for the first as the goalkeeper only parried a long-range Pedro Porro shot into Solanke’s path.
However, it was the Argentine defender who gotthe most stinging criticism, with the man sometimes known as ‘The Butcher’ accused of ‘wimpish’ play.
‘I have to say the clearance from Lisandro Martinez is quite simply appalling. To play that straight to Kulusevski,’ Neville said on Sky Sports.
‘He’s been let down by two poor mistakes, Ruben Amorim. He really has. You can talk about structure, shape, patterns tactics, but if your goalkeeper parries one out into the centre of the box and your centre back flicks one with the outside of his left boot…it’s a wimpish clearance.’
??It was a chaotic contest in north London as Spurs looked to be in complete control when Solanke scored again to make it 3-0 after 54 minutes.
??However, Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster had a disastrous few minutes and two terrible mistakes with his feet saw Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo bring it back to 3-2 with 20 minutes to play.
?It was extremely nervy for the home side then, but Son Heung-min managed to score direct from a corner on 88 minutes, with Bayindir at fault again.
?The Manchester United goalkeeper complained about a challenge from Lucas Bergvall, but Neville was not convinced.
‘It’s a mess, I’ve got no sympathy for goalkeepers that get pushed off the ball by defenders,’ said the former Red Devils defender. ‘He’s fuming but I still think he’s got to be stronger.’
??The chaos refused to end as Jonny Evans scored a 94th minute third for United and made for an edgy climax, but Tottenham held on to make the semi-finals.
??There was bad news for the Red Devils as Victor Lindelof limped out of the contest, suffering yet another injury problem on only his fourth start of the season.
‘It is demoralising. You’ve been in the gyn, worked hard, got back again then you break down in the first half. You just want to get off,’ said Neville.
‘You feel hopeless, like you don’t belong in the changing room. You can see that he’s upset, really upset.’
]]>As 2025 begins in Emmerdale, so does an exciting new career path for Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).
The character has been at university studying to become a doctor. ??When January kicks off though, Jacob will finally put all of his revising to the test when he embarks on his first placement in A&E.
Discussing this standalone episode set in a local hospital, actor Joe-Warren Plant explained how Jacob’s first day plays out.
‘He turns up at the hospital feeling pretty energised and ready for the day. Knowing how long he has been waiting for this. I think part of him is proud of his new job so before he starts his shift whilst he has a little bit of time he takes a quick selfie for social media.
‘It’s been a pretty big deal for Jacob leading up to this point. Part of him wants to take his friends and his family on his journey with him.
‘Doctor Todd and Jacob meet for the first time and you get the vibe that Doctor Todd is quite experienced within the hospital. She oversees the whole A&E area really and she has got an important job to do in bringing these new trainees in and giving them as much knowledge as she possesses in quite a short amount of time.
He added: ‘You get the vibe that although she is strict she is also understanding. She is there to do her job and to also make it easier and as safe as possible for everybody involved. Jacob understands this and knows he is there to learn.
‘He listens to her and takes it all on board. She tells him it’s a four week placement and it starts with observations and from that point on there are all the nurses and doctors to help the trainees along their way.’
??While Emmerdale has aired special instalments before, this one feels very different due to it entirely being set in a hospital.
Joe revealed how he felt filming Jacob’s daunting experience: ‘I remember turning up on the first day we were filming Leon’s block in the hospital. I think the thing that stood out to me at first was the costume. Obviously it was the first time I had ever worn a set of scrubs. So that immediately made it all feel different.
‘And very different to how Jacob usually dresses. It certainly helped set the tone for the rest of the day. The sets were also really busy. There are a lot of wonderful new artists and supporting artists that came in just for this one episode.
He pondered: ‘I think it was important for them to create a chaotic environment to mirror what it can be like in a real A&E.? In this episode they also used the roaming steadicam in a lot of the scenes. Which we do use on occasion but not as heavily as we did in this episode. So it felt different to the normal camera on sticks shots that don’t allow for a lot of movement.
‘It was nice shooting these scenes and they really put a lot of choreography into them. There were some really nice shots involved and I remember on the first day that we started in the hospital just knowing and realising how much the crew and the cast all cared about what was being filmed.’

Reflecting on his reaction when he was told about this episode, Joe said: ‘When I first went up to the meeting with the producer Sophie she told me there was going to be an hour long episode coming up dedicated to Jacob’s first day of placement on A&E, I remember being hit with all these emotions.
‘Knowing how many people have this high pressure job and I felt the pressure to really knuckle down with it and get it right.
‘Tackling this storyline scared me a bit at first but to know but they trusted me to tell it, it means a lot and I do feel very honoured.’

James Hitchcock, 32, suffered serious head injuries after the assault at York?? railway station on Sunday night, but he died on Wednesday.
?The Barton Town FC player, who was married with a young son, died with his family at his side in hospital.
His family have now released a tribute to Josh, saying their ‘hearts are broken’ by his death, while his club said they were ‘devastated’ by the news of his death.
His family said: ‘We still cannot comprehend the events that have taken place.
‘James was one in a million, the life and soul of the party and did not deserve to be taken from us so soon.
‘His memory will live on in the life of his beautiful baby boy.’
Josh was the first team goalkeeper for Barton Town, who said all games scheduled for this week will be postponed ‘as a mark of respect’.
The club’s chair, Mark Gregory, called James a ‘popular but quiet’ member of the team, who joined from Bridlington Town at the start of the season.
He added: ‘The news of James’s death has been hard to take in. It’s horrible.
‘James was a popular member of the club. We are all devastated. We are a very close-knit club.’
Meanwhile his former team, Bridlington Town FC, said they were in ‘disbelief at James’ death, adding: ‘The word “devastated” does not explain how we as a club feel at this time.
‘Hitch will always be on our minds and in our hearts and our deepest condolences and thoughts and prayers go to April and Freddie and all the family.’

]]>Chart-topping pop star George Ezra has become a dad for the first time!
The Paradise hitmaker? and his girlfriend are believed to have welcomed a little one earlier this month.
George, 31, is typically private when it comes to his love life, and the identity of his other half is currently unknown. But it’s thought to be a new romance.
?However, the Budapest singer was spotted beaming as he carried his newborn on a recent outing in Hertford.
??George cut a casual figure in all black as he held his baby in a carrier while popping to the shops to stock up on both nappies and Brewdog beer.
A source told The Sun: ‘George is ecstatic about becoming a dad.
‘It’s been such an exciting time for him, and this Christmas is going to be very memorable for him.
‘George is in a great place and is enjoying being a hands-on dad.’
??While the songwriter bares all in his lyrics, he likes to keep his personal life out of the spotlight.
??His exes include British musician Florrie Arnold, whom he met shortly after the release of his debut album, Wanted on Voyage (2014). Their relationship ended after three years.
George’s baby joy comes after he was forced to cancel a string of shows last year.
After telling fans he felt ‘incredibly unwell,’ he was diagnosed with acute vertigo.
Vertigo symptoms make you feel like you or everything around you is spinning, enough to affect your balance, with an attack lasting anything from a few seconds to months, according to the NHS.
?Thankfully, George was able to reschedule his gigs to promote his Gold Rush Kid record.
?He then took a full social media break before returning this summer to mark the 10th anniversary of his first album, which was inspired by a trip George took around Europe the year before.
?Following positive reviews, the album debuted at number three in the UK before climbing to number one weeks later.
?George has been spotted on a few low-key outings this year and is understood to be extending his break from music into 2025.
A close friend added to The Sun: ‘George took time out to focus on his health and now he’s become a dad, he wants to enjoy every moment of that experience.
‘He is focusing on what is really important in his life, and that is his partner and their baby.’

]]>??Matt Selt regrets his outburst at the climax of his game with Artemijs Zizins in German Masters qualifying, saying an apology to his opponent has been accepted.
??Zizins beat Selt 5-4 on Tuesday in Sheffield in dramatic fashion, fluking match ball which elicited an angry reaction from the Englishman.
As the final red rolled into the unexpected pocket, the 39-year-old loudly shouted ‘Oh my God!’ and fumed in his chair, with the 18-year-old clearly uncomfortable.
??There were awkward scenes as the players shook hands, with Selt wishing the teenager good luck but Zizins obviously feeling guilty about how things went.
?The clip of the incident went viral and Selt has come in for criticism, but he says he meant no malice towards the youngster and has apologised for putting him in an uncomfortable position.
‘It didn’t occur to me at the time but I have realised that he’s a young professional, probably looking up to a senior player, not in terms of what I’ve done in the game, but just as an older player,’ Selt told Metro.
‘I shouldn’t have made that outburst. It is raw emotion of live sport. It wasn’t malicious or derogatory. I said “well played” and “good luck” after the game. The game was played in great spirits.
‘I reached out to him after and said: “I’m sorry about yesterday, I hope the outburst didn’t upset you, it wasn’t meant like that and good luck in Berlin.” He messaged back and apology accepted.’
??The situation certainly looked bad as Zizins continued at the table after the vocals from his opponent, clearly playing in uncomfortable circumstances, but Selt says the outburst was effectively a concession.
‘I can’t stress enough from my side that for me it was after the match had finished,’ he said. ‘I understand it looks bad, but I’d already decided to concede once the red went in.
‘There’s no way I would have carried on if he missed the blue. I wasn’t trying to put the kid off. If he missed the blue I was getting up and shaking his hand anyway.
‘But as a senior player there’s no way I should have acted like that. He’s a lovely lad and he’s a very, very good player, potted some silly good balls in that match. 100 per cent I regret doing it, and especially in front of someone so young and new to the game.
‘I certainly didn’t mean to upset him or make him feel uncomfortable in any way, it’s terrible on my behalf if I’ve done that, but it wasn’t intended to be rude or derogatory. But as I say, I’ve reached out to him and apologised and he’s accepted it. I regret it and don’t want it to affect him going forward.
‘Emotions run high. The game’s played with passion and we all try our best. It was so big for me that match because it’s probably cost me a Grand prix slot.’
After shaking hands, Zizins admirably offered the words ‘have a good Christmas’ which Selt was thoroughly impressed by.
‘It shows the class and character of him really, because he fluked match ball and looked distraught about it,’ he said. ‘To then say something nice to me on the way out shows the class of the kid.’
?Selt did note that, while he admits a mistake, the abuse he has received on social media since has been relentless and punishing.
‘It’s been a bit of an eye-opener, the last couple of days, with tonnes of abuse,’ he said. ‘The abuse doesn’t normally bother me, but it certainly grinds down on your mental wellbeing when you’re consistently getting it. It’s non-stop, it’s relentless.’
?Zizins booked his spot at the German Masters in Berlin with the win and is back in action on Sunday in World Open qualifying against Mark Selby.
?Selt plays on the same day in the same tournament against Manasawin Phetmalaikul.

The official Netflix Twitter account confirmed the news with a video from the film, along with the message: ‘Hi, Barbie! BARBIE IS NOW ON NETFLIX IN THE US.?/p>
??Right on cue, fans flooded the post with joy as they made plans to return to Barbie world as soon as possible.
Bri yelled: ‘OMG YAY I’VE BEEN WANTING TO REWATCH.?/p>
Hazel agreed: ‘Ultimate comfort movie im gonna watch it every day [sic].?/p>
??‘Oh I’m ab to be insufferable [sic],?Monie declared.
Baatir posted: ‘Yoooooo, one of my favorite moviesssss! Might just fall asleep to this later! [sic].?/p>
As Steven added: ‘We will all be watching the best movie of 2023!?/p>
Unfortunately, Barbie is currently only available on Netflix in the US, and it is not clear if – or when – it will be coming to the UK version.
??The movie focused on Barbie having the time of her life with Ken, and their revolving collection of Barbie and Ken friends, ‘in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land.
‘However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans.?/p>
Barbie truly took on a life of its own long before it arrived on the big screen last summer – with everyone turning the release into an entire event.
Cinema-goers were also delighted by Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer premiering on the same day, celebrating the phenomenon known as ‘Barbenheimer?with a unique double feature.
Many studios have tried, and failed, to recreate the Barbenheimer effect with their own releases – including dubbing Wicked and Gladiator ‘Glicked?/a> – but nothing quite took off in the same way.
Now all we need is Cillian Murphy’s Oscar-winning performance to debut on Netflix so that we can truly go back to last summer?/p>
Barbie is available to stream on Netflix US now.

]]>Belle Dingle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) ordeal finally came to an end in tonight’s episode of Emmerdale, as Tom King (James Chase) was sentenced to three years in prison after physically and emotionally abusing her.
The start of the week ??saw Belle in a panic about attending court. She was scared she would say the wrong thing and Tom might walk free because of her.
At the end of last night’s episode though, Charity (Emma Atkins) and Cain (Jeff Hordley) felt relief as Belle showed up with minutes to spare. She was ready to tell her story.
Tonight, ?Denise Welch, Charles Dale and Jack Ellis graced our screens playing three members of the jury – Heidi, Karl and Kenneth. As Tom and Belle gave their statements to the court, we also saw scenes of the jury having meeting after meeting, attempting to reach an agreement on whether Tom is a guilty man or not.
Heidi was certain Belle was telling the truth, but others weren’t sure.
??As the conversation ticked on and multiple breaks were had, the group knew they needed to reach a conclusion. Before things could go any further though, Kenneth spoke up.
?He told a story about a young boy who lived near him when his daughter was little. They were friends, but their lives went in different directions as they got older.
?At first, the other members wondered why Kenneth was telling the story. He went on to reveal that the young lad grew up to become an abusive murderer, responsible for killing the mother of his children.
The group were horrified. Kenneth said that he met the victim a couple of times, and noticed the spark she previously had wasn’t there. He recognised the same facial expressions and signs in Belle, and new they had to consider what Tom may do next if he was allowed to walk free.

And the return of someone very loved indeed.
]]>??Ruben Amorim says Marcus Rashford can still have a future at Manchester United despite leaving him out of the squad for the Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham on Thursday.
Both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho men were left out of the squad as United beat Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, with Rashford’s future becoming headline news since.
??The England international has openly said that he expects, and is ready for, his future to be away from the club and the debate now is ?over where he will move to rather than if he will leave.
Garnacho returned to the substitutes’ bench against Spurs in the chaotic 4-3 defeat in the quarter-finals, but Rashford was out of the squad again.
??Before the game the Portuguese said his choices were simply down to who he thought was best equipped for the clash with Spurs.
‘Selection. I choose the players that I feel that are ready to cope with the demands of playing a strong game,’ Amorim told Sky Sports. ‘I tried to visualise all week and then choose my players. Just selection.’
Amorim listed a number of reasons why the players were axed against City, including ‘training performance, game performances, engagement with teammates’ and he says the same factors always apply.
‘It’s always the same with every player, not just Marcus. In the end I have to make a selection and I did it.’
After the loss, the manager left the door open for Rashford, saying: ‘Tomorrow we have training, he will be there preparing for next game. He is a United player, everyone has a future at Man United.’
?Amorim did say pre-match that Garnacho has impressed since the disappointment of missing the derby and has earned a place back on the bench in north London.
‘Good. Like the others. He’s prepared to play the game,’ said the manager. ‘I really liked the way he trained so it’s one more option for the offence.
‘He’s really fast, he’s good one-against-one, we need these kind of abilities from Garnacho. He’s ready to help us.’
On his future, Rashford told Henry Winter?? this week: ‘For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.
?‘When I leave it’s going to be “no hard feelings? You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.
??‘If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person.
‘When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.?/p>
Amorim was asked before the Spurs clash if he would have offered this kind of news in an interview and said: ‘If this was me, probably I will speak with the manager.
‘But, guys, let’s focus on Tottenham. Tottenham is the most important thing.’
]]>Gavin and Stacey gave us one of the best cliffhangers of all time when Nessa proposed to Smithy, but now Ruth Jones has highlighted why she couldn’t do it again.
Ruth, 58, has played Nessa for 17 years, with her on/off romance with James Corden’s Smithy being a central plot.
The last time we caught up with gang, Nessa and Smithy were once again struggling to define their relationship. Although Smithy had moved on with Sonia (Laura Aikman), he wound up back in bed with the mother of his child Neil the baby, Nessa. When Sonia left Christmas day in Barry Island early after becoming overwhelmed by the Wests and Shipmans, Nessa proposed to Smithy.
Before we could hear Smithy’s answer the credits rolled, and fans have been left in suspense for five years.
At a special screening for the Gavin and Stacey finale, which will air on Christmas day, Ruth joked that she’d now struggle to recreate the proposal.
‘It took me a little while to get up off my knees, and to be quite honest with you, I don’t think I could get down on one knee now,’ she stated with a laugh while speaking on stage at London’s Ham Yard Hotel.
?In a more emotional part of the chat, Ruth became teary when discussing the running themes of the BBC show, with one element clear in each of the 22 episodes.
‘What has remained throughout all of the episodes is this sense of love – I’m going to cry now – love between friends, love between family members, conventional boy meets girl love stories and unconventional relationships,’ she explained.
‘So I think that’s kind of remained the same, and the lack of cynicism has remained the same. Basically all the people, all the characters in the show really do love each other. Call it boring, but they do.’
She also thanked co-creator James for being her ‘travel companion on this wonderful journey.’ He echoed her sentiments, calling it ‘a privilege to have an idea with someone for whom it is just a joy to sit with and write with.’
‘I love you very much. I’m very proud of all of it,’ he concluded.
The beloved show tells the story of Mathew Horne??’s Gavin Shipman and Joanna Page’s Stacey West relationship and the joining of their families ?from Essex and Barry Island respectively.
Thanks to the hilarious scripts and top notch acting, it found a huge fanbase, but Ruth and James, 46, brought it to a close in 2010. James has revealed one of the reasons they left it be is because their ‘absolute dream came true’ when they got their initial Christmas special two years earlier, adding ‘that was enough for us’.
He continued: ‘We really felt like we’d probably told enough of the story, and if we’re honest with ourselves, we were finding it hard to construct ways for the families to keep meeting up.’ James and Ruth felt that the show was at its best when these scenarios occurred.
There’s another reason audiences have had to wait so long for the episodes, and that’s due to James and Ruth taking a while to get on the same page.
‘I think we both had various points where we talked about doing it and for one reason or another Ruth may have said, “I think we should do it now”. And I was like, “I don’t know”,’ James recalled.
‘Then I can remember a moment where I was like, “I really think we should do this and write it”. And Ruth was like, “I just don’t feel in the right headspace”, or “it’s not the right timeline”.’
?Finally, last summer they agreed to a FaceTime to discuss only the show, and not have their usual friendly catchup, and it turned out they both had the same idea.
In September 2023, they got together and began writing, and ended up with 70 pages of script. ‘It may sound like complete nonsense, but it doesn’t really feel like we’re in charge of writing it. I feel like we just have to be together, and we sort of open a portal, and the characters arrive and they tell us what they want everybody to know,’ James said. It was at this point, they contacted the BBC to see if they would be interested.
Fans’ patience to find out the conclusion of the characters’ stories with a special in 2019 and the finale in 2024, James sees as a lesson in what we should be valuing.
‘Here’s a show that ended 15 years ago, waited 10 years to tell another hour of their story and waited five more years to end it,’ he began.
‘Actually maybe the lesson for all of us – for people that write about television, for people that talk about television, for people that write television – is actually maybe time and patience and care might be the answer to things having longevity outside of what we consume on our phones.’
Gavin and Stacey returns to the BBC for one final time on Christmas Day at 9pm.

]]>?A tourist has issued a warning to fellow travellers over a common device which landed her in trouble with the law.
??Tina Lewis, a Canadian trail runner who now lives in Colorado, had been travelling across India during a months-long trip when she ran into the legal snag.
??She had travelled through a number of other Indian airports before catching the attention of airport security in Goa.
As she often travels solo, Tina usually carries a mini GPS device – in this case a Garmin inReach – used to signal for help or just stay in contact with others while camping or otherwise exploring where there is no mobile phone reception.
But she ended up being detained by airport security before being escorted to the local police station over the GPS device – which breaks a law dating back to 1933.
??According to the Indian wireless Telegraphy Act of 1933, possession of wireless telegraphy equipment without a proper license is prohibited.
??The ban encompasses satellite technology, included in the Garmin inReach Mini device, described on the company’s site as a ‘go-to connection for maintaining off-the-grid contact.
But the Garmin website does include a warning that some jurisdictions ‘regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communications devices’, and it’s up to the user to follow relevant laws, MailOnline reports.
After spending hours at the police station Tina was bailed out by a friend’s lawyer at around midnight – and after ‘days of court’ her case ‘was finally cleared’.
??She spent thousands in court fines and lawyer fees in addition for surrendering her Garmin device, and it took six days for her passport to be returned.
But she’s not the first tourist to fall foul of these laws.
??A Czech traveler was also arrested in Goa with a Garmin device earlier this month, as was an American with a satellite phone in Dehradun, according to local reports.
‘This outdated law needs to be challenged at higher courts so other travelers do not experience what I and others have,?Tina posted on Instagram, adding: ‘WARNING: carrying a GPS device in India can get you arrested!?/p>
??But she continued her trip to India regardless, saying: ‘Since receiving my passport back, I did not want to make a rash decision and just fly home. I was not letting this experience ruin my trip.
‘I took a few days to rest and reset on the beach.
‘I’m not sure I will feel the same way about the country as I did before but I’m willing to at least leave with a better experience, and some good stories.?/p>

]]>Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) got the upper hand over rival Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) in Thursday’s EastEnders? – but there was danger ahead for the expectant mum as a fire started at her flat.
The two characters have been locked in a pact after Lauren discovered Cindy was somehow involved in Kojo Asare’s (Dayo Koleosho) recent accident.
Worried that if Lauren were to uncover the full truth about Kojo’s fall it could lead to her affair with Junior Knight (Micah Balfour??) being exposed, Cindy began supplying painkiller-addicted Lauren with pills to keep her sweet.
However, Cindy called off their deal earlier this week?? when she found out Lauren was pregnant, issuing her with an ultimatum to tell her partner Peter Beale (Thomas Law) about her addiction.
??On Thursday, Lauren sought to dig up dirt on Cindy after finding out Kojo had been released from hospital.
??Speaking to Kojo’s brother George Knight (Colin Salmon) at The Vic, Lauren learned that Kojo has been refusing to open up since returning home.
??Telling George she’d been given some coping mechanisms following her ordeal in the club crush earlier this year, Lauren offered to share the techniques with Kojo, giving her an excuse to go upstairs and speak with him.
??She soon learned that Cindy had threatened Kojo in hospital, telling him that if he was to reveal the truth about his accident, he would cause trouble and be sent back to Ghana.
?While Kojo would not give her any more details, Lauren was buoyed when she then bumped into Cindy downstairs, revealing she knew she was hiding a massive secret.
?Realising the need to keep Lauren on side, Cindy then supplied her with more pills to keep her quiet ?nbsp;but will Lauren find out the truth and expose Cindy’s affair with Junior?
??That all depends on if Lauren survives to the end of the week, however, as after she headed home and took more pills, she fell asleep unaware that a fire had started in her flat? Will she get out alive?

]]>There was a terrifying hostage situation for Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) on Thursday’s EastEnders? ?nbsp;but not everything was as it seemed.
Denise has been on edge since learning Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) had escaped from prison, worried he would seek revenge on The Six and walk back ??on his agreement to take the rap for Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) murder.
?In the latest episode of the soap to air on BBC One, Denise sought an update on Nish from his granddaughter Avani, who admitted she was sick of being kept under lock and key by her fearful family.
??As Denise brought her into the salon for a chat, Avani then revealed she was being trolled online over Nish.
??Trying to empathise with the teenager, Denise opened up to her about her murderous ex-husband Lucas Johnson (Don Gilet).
?Realising Denise would be able to help her with her anxieties over Nish, she pleaded for a job at the salon.
?Her parents, Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) and Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan-Levy), were less than keen on the idea, but she ignored their concerns and accepted an offer from Denise.
??Later that evening, the pair were closing up at the salon when two masked men burst in and claimed that Nish had sent them.
??However, Avani soon recognised one of them as someone called Aiden, who was one of the people who had been trolling her, before he and his accomplice left the salon in fits of giggles.
??Despite not being in immediate danger from Nish, Denise was left shaken and started to have a panic attack.
??With her guilt over Keanu’s death still weighing heavy, will her fear of Nish raise suspicions?

]]>?A man who murdered a 10-year-old girl as part of his cannibalistic fantasy has been killed by lethal injection on his birthday.
Kevin Ray Underwood was the US’s final execution of the year when he was pronounced dead on Thursday morning at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.
??Underwood, who admitted to brutally killing Jamie Rose Bolin in 2006, looked at his mother and family and his defense team as three drugs were administered into his system starting at 10.04am.
??His breathing appeared interrupted and he shut his eyes minutes later. Underwood was pronounced dead at 10.14am, said state Department of Corrections spokesperson Lance West.
It was the same day that Underwood turned 45.
‘The decision to execute me on my birthday and six days before Christmas was a needlessly cruel thing to do to my family,’ said Underwood.
‘But I’m very sorry for what I did and I wish I could take it back.’
While strapped down in the death chamber, Underwood apologized to Jamie’s family and his own ‘for all the terrible things I did’.
?Underwood lured Jamie to his apartment in Purcell, Oklahoma, and used a cutting board to strike her head, suffocated and sexually harassed her and almost beheaded her in a bathtub. He then ditched plans to eat her.
Police were suspicious of Underwood at a checkpoint and searched his home and found Jaime’s naked body in his closet wrapped in a plastic bag.
‘I would like to apologize to the victim’s family, to my own family and to everyone in that room today that had to hear the horrible details of what I did,’ Underwood said to the family in a hearing last week.
The former grocery store worker’s lawyers asked that he be spared of the death penalty due to mental and other illnesses including schizotypal personality disorder, schizotypal personality, bipolar and panic disorders, autism, post-traumatic stress disorder and multiple deviant sexual paraphilias.
??Prosecutors argued that mental illness does not justify hurting children.
Early Thursday, the US Supreme Court denied Underwood’s last-minute bid for a stay of execution.
Underwood’s last meal consisted of chicken fried steak, a cheeseburger with fries and ketchup, mashed potatoes and gravy, pinto beans a hot roll and soda in a prison canteen at 5.40pm on Wednesday, Oklahoma Department of Corrections spokeswoman Kay Thompson told The Independent.
Jamie’s sister, Lori Pate, expressed gratitude to prosecutors for seeing through capital punishment for Underwood.
‘This doesn’t bring our Jamie back but it does allow the space in our hearts to focus on her and allow the healing process to begin,’ said Pate.
??Underwood is the 25th inmate to be executed in the country this year.

Emmerdale viewers have waited a long time to see Belle Dingle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) abusive husband Tom King (James Chase) get his comeuppance.
??It’s been a horrific year for Belle, and despite the warning signs during their engagement, she still went ahead with their wedding suffered the physical and emotional abuse Tom put her through.
His cruel actions spiralled from verbal remarks to forcing her to have sex with him, leaving Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) for dead and smashing her mother’s urn.
Tom went on to stage a fake death for her beloved pooch Piper (who will make a welcome return?? very soon!) and secretly record her every move using hidden cameras in Dale Head.
Recently, viewers saw him fake a suicide attempt?? in prison. As a trained vet, he knew just how much damage he could inflict on himself to make it look realistic.

Denise’s character Heidi was certain from the outset that Belle was being truthful, whilst her fellow members weren’t so sure.
Charles Dale, who best known for his role as Big Mac in Casualty?? and Janice Battersby’s (Vicky Entwistle) boyfriend Dennis Stringer in Corrie played Karl.

GET THE OFFEROver 30 tonnes of contaminated seafood has been seized by European authorities, potentially saving millions of people from getting food poisoning over Christmas.
Footage released by Spain’s Guardia Civil shows police officers seizing molluscs and six tonnes of glass eels worth up to 10 million euros (£8.2 million) on the seafood market, which were illegally harvested by organised criminal groups in Portugal and Spain.
??The delicacies can fetch up to £25 per kilo, but poaching gangs exploited Asian workers by paying them just pennies per kilo for molluscs fished in contaminated waters in Portugal.
??A total of 62 members of the group were arrested by Europol, with authorities identifying six of the suspects as ‘High-Value Targets?
??The gangs mainly harvested Japanese clams, which are a popular Christmas dish in Spain and Portugal, and falsified the documentation to present them as fit for consumption.
?If undetected, this could have sparked a serious public health alarm consuming contaminated molluscs can put people at risk of developing serious illnesses, including hepatitis.
?The case is also notable for being the first proven crime in the European Union to combine environmental offences and human trafficking, Europol said.
?In a statement, the agency said the gangs would ‘fish illegally in Portugal, sending the molluscs to Spain and on to the criminal networks.
‘The contrast between the price of the molluscs on the market and the fishers?earnings led authorities to confirm the link between environmental crime and trafficking in human beings for labour exploitation for the first time ever in the EU.?/p>
??Europol experts from the Environmental Crime Unit identified the criminal trend and lent their expertise to the Member States involved.
?Authorities then facilitated operational meetings, coordinated the action days, and provided financial support to national authorities.
?During the action days, Europol experts were deployed on the ground in Portugal, Spain, and France.
Their operational analysis uncovered new “High-Value Targets”, prompting further investigations.

]]>Tom Cruise couldn’t wipe the smile from his face as he made a surprise appearance at a screening of A Complete Unknown – where he reunited with a former co-star.
??The 62-year-old was previously romantically linked to Top Gun: Maverick actress Monica Barbaro, amid claims that he wanted to ‘explore a relationship with her?
Although the speculation has died down in recent months, he posed up a storm alongside the 34-year-old and co at a screening of the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic in London this week.
?On Tuesday, he stopped by the Ham Yard hotel to catch a showing, before celebrating the launch with the cast, including Timothee Chalamet and Elle Fanning.
In new pictures, he could be seen grinning widely as he caught up with his former colleague, before they took pictures together.
?Tom looked smart in a dark denim shirt and jeans for the occasion, paired with a warm black coat.
??Monica also got the memo in a grey pinstripe blazer and matching trousers, coupled with a white top for the occasion.
The pair previously shared the screen together in 2022’s iconic Top Gun: Maverick, a much-needed sequel to the 1986 classic.
Tom reprised his role as Pete ‘Maverick?Mitchell ??for the blockbuster, beside Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm, Val Kilmer and Jennifer Connolly.
??Monica, who also starred in Chicago Justice, The Good Cop, FUBAR and Unreal, joined the cast as Natasha ‘Phoenix?race, a pilot and Top Gun graduate student.
